(JUDGE, HIGH COURT OF MADRAS)
It gives me immense pleasure to know that my alma mater Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College, Puducherry is stepping into the 50th year of its existence. The phrase alma mater was originally used connote a nourishing mother or nursing mother. I must confess that Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College, Puducherry, in fact, is a nourishing mother to all its students. When I stepped into the College 1983 after having obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce from an Institution housed in a campus measuring little more than 100 acres, I was left wondering, as to whether, this building could house a Government Law College. (I am talking about the old building on Lal Bahadur Shastri Road and not the present campus). After interacting with the then Principal Professor S. G. Bhat on the day of my admission, I felt that my dream has been fulfilled and my professional ambition will also be fulfilled, if I am able to complete my Law Degree from this Institution. Almost 38 years have passed by since I entered the portals of the Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College, Puducherry, in 1983. Not a single day has passed without remembering my alma mater. I owe the position that I occupy today as a Judge of the Prestigious Chartered High Court, to the College and the Professors, who thought us for three years.
I wish the College regains its glorious past and glitters as one of the premier Law Institutes in the Country.
